Additional BVKS discussed in cabinet meeting

A number of Bali tourism stakeholders have applied the policy of free visa for short-term visit (BVKS) to primary market buffer of Bali tourism. Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik promise to help the implementation of Bali’s aspiration for obtaining additional BVKS facility.
Currently, as many as 11 facility state have applied
for  BVKS facility. He promise to fight for the addition of 9 states enjoying this facility through Department of Foreign Affair. This effort is expected be able to jack up the number of foreign tourist visiting Indonesia.
A tourism stakeholder, Ida
Bagus Surakusuma, said, “Now is the best time to apply for the addition of BVKS facility towards Minister of Law and Human Right,” he said. He hopes this year becomes an opportunity for Tourism and Culture Minister to give something for tourism industry in Bali.
According to him, Tourism and Culture Minister has to give a strong argument why the BVKS requires to be added. The security reason of government to refuse the addition of BVKS was regarded less appropriate. “There is no relation between BVKS and domestic Security,” he said. He said that, foreign citizens, who will travel surely have passed tight inspection in their own states. Furthermore, our
intelligence also own intelligential relation whether there are foreign citizens suspected of breaking the law visiting our country.
Even he agreed with BVKS addition, he affirmed that countries receiving BVKS facility must be selected carefully. “15 potential markets of Bali tourism are given the priority to receive BVKS facility,” he said. Japan, Australia, Taiwan, and Korea are the biggest contribution for Bali tourism. Meanwhile, for less potential countries, Visa on Arrival
( VoA) facility should be adequate.

Bagus Ngurah Wijaya made similar statement. He expressed that the industrial party asked the government for additional BVKS facility. It is an effort to attract tourists to Bali.

Gede Nurjaya said, from 184 contributor countries, Bali receives different tourist contribution. If twenty states of primary market buffer are given BVKS facility, it is expected will prefer Bali as their destination.
Nowadays Indonesia has given BVKS facility to 11 states, namely Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, Chili, Philippine, Thailand, Morocco, Macao, and Hong Kong. “I have been contacted Tourism and Culture Minister. He said that the proposal of BVKS’ addition in this time is currently discussed in cabinet meeting,” he said. 

Local Travel Agent change over to domestic market (Indonesia Market)

Based on the data released by the Indonesian Department of Tourism and Culture in 2007, it is estimated that the numbers of domestic tourists reach 119 million people, 218 million visits, with the revenue of Rp 80 trillion. In 2005, the number of domestic tourists was about 112 million people with the approximately 213 million visits. It was estimated, from 213.3 million people, the revenue received was Rp 77.51 trillion. In 2006, the number of domestic tourists was around 115 million people with 216.5 million visits. The total expense of domestic tourists in that year reached Rp 78.6 trillion.
The chief of Asita Bali, Al Purwa, expressed, a lot of Asita’s members altered their target. “They move swiftly and specialize themselves to work on the domestic markets and Asian countries,” he said. He also said that the movement of domestic visits gave a very promising opportunity for all BPW (Tour Agent).
Even there is difference in terms of spending power, but the target can he fulfilled with its frequent visits He added that if Bali were only visited by tourists of upper medium class, several problems would arise. “Not all tourism industries in Bali are able to accommodate guests of upper medium class. Domestic guests prefer to stay in hotel with a more affordable tariff. This means all industries in Bali can have their own share.
“I estimate that the number of BPW after the change of target towards domestic market will be about 15 percent,” he said. This time, the Asita’s members in Bali are more than 300 BPW, spreading all over Bali. The entire members of the organization are estimated to focus on domestic market. He said further, appropriate air transportation is a crucial factor to boost the number of domestic guest visiting Bali.

Plait crafts still in demand to tourist market

Bali Island was known as the art production place in Indonesia. Here local and foreign customers can choose handicrafts that produced with unique designs and motifs. Handicrafts made of natural material still interested by customers, particularly plait crafts. Up to these days, many Balinese craftsmen still created various plait crafts made of natural material, because they seen the customer demand toward products increase in local and also regional markets, like Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and other towns.
“The demand of plait crafts have never quiet. In a week we can offer 1,000 pieces of plait products to Sukawati Art Market,” a craftsman, I Gde Ariasa said on Wednesday in Gianyar.
According to Ariasa, normally, his. party offered the product with the price reach Rp 65,000 to Rp 80,000 per pieces. While, in Sukawati Art Market the seller sell a few costlier.
Ariasa explained, nowadays his party faced the material problem. “We are difficult to get raw material. Normally, the raw material distributed from outside Bali, like ,Java and Lombok,” he explained.
“At the present, raw material is rareness, in this place natural materials can be exploited to become multifarious of handicrafts,” he said.
A seller, Ni Ketut Suarni said, every day the seller could offer 50 pieces of plait crafts in Sukawati Art Market. In this market, the price of plait products reaches Rp 50.000 until Rp 60.000 per pieces that depend on the sizes and designs.
According to Suarni, as well as local customers, the products also offer to local tourist from Java, particularly Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and others which is having the day off in this area.
