There are many interesting things that can be enjoyed when on vacation in Bali. The traditions, culture, architecture and life of Hinduism are very unique and beautiful. If you are passionate about architecture and want to know more closely, coming to the Bali Art Center which is located on Jalan Nusa Indah, Denpasar is perfect. The location is in downtown Denpasar, approximately 10 km from Sanur or approximately 30 minutes from Kuta or Legian area.

To get to Bali Art Center from the tourist area of Sanur is very easy and only through the main Hangtuah road and then turn right towards Hayam Wuruk street. Approximately 2.5 km will meet Nusa Indah street. The location of the Bali Art Center is on the west of the road or on the left side of the road which is marked by a magnificent distinctive Balinese architecture.

Denpasar's Taman Budaya or Art Center is perhaps best known for the annual Pesta Kesenian Bali (PKB) or Bali Art Festival (BAF) that takes place here every June-July. This month long festival features an astonishingly diverse array of traditional performing arts from all over Bali as well as collaborative performances with artists from other parts of the world and is very much in line with the original intention of the Art Center.

Bali's then governor, Ida Bagus Mantra had the idea of creating a venue where Bali's traditional and contemporary arts could be displayed, performed, developed and maintained in the face of the onslaught of international influences that were hitting Bali in the early 1970's. The Art Center was built under his government in 1973 and was modelled after Balinese temple architecture with a healthy dose of elaborate Balinese ornamentation.

To this day, the Art Center still functions according to this original intention housing a permanent collection of Balinese paintings, photographs and other objects. Complete with a giant open air amphitheatre, only slightly smaller indoor stage and several other performance spaces, the Art Center still hosts the PKB (Bali Arts Festival) as well as myriad other events throughout the year.

The sprawling grounds of the Denpasar Art Center, also include two sculpted bridges that cross the small portion of river that runs through the grounds, several pagodas, and an impressive lotus flower pond located in front of goddess statues from whom pour forth water similar to types of spouts found in some of Bali's well-known temples. All the buildings located here host art events and exhibitions and are also impressive in they gradeur and ornate sculptural details that are overshadowed only by the majestic trees. In short, not only are these grounds dedicated to Balinese art but also to the beauty of the Island of Bali and make for a lovely place to take a few moments to stroll around or just sit and marvel at the wonder of it all.
