Bali Tourism Still Depend on Air Transportation
26 April 2008The arrival of foreign tourists in Bali still depends on air transportation. Based on the data of the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) Bali, there were 99.83 percent of foreign tourists traveled to Bali in April 2007 by using air transportation. Meanwhile, only 0.17 percent of
foreigners used sea transportation.

The number of foreign tourists who traveled by using sea transportation in April 2007 is recorded as only 11 people. The figure was declining more than 93 percent compared to March 2007 with 160 people. The number of tourists visiting the Bali Island in April reached 125,140 people, which is experiencing an improvement of 20.29 percent. If compared to March 2007, the figure increased 5.15 percent.
From January-April 2007, the number of foreign tourists traveling by sea reached 789 people. The arrival of foreigners in the same period of 2006 reached 1,332 people. The Head of Bali Tourism Authority, Gede Nurjaya, has stated that these days Bali still relies on air transportation
facilities provided in ports, and onboard ships and other water means of transportation are not adequate yet. He has asked the central government and industrial perpetrators to pay more attention to ports and harbors specialized for the tourism sector. Actually, this year facilities to make more tourists use sea transportation have been developed. At present Karangasem is constructing a port for cruise ships.
