Petitenget Temple was established around the fifteenth century and the location was formerly an eerie belt of moor overgrown by shrubs (tenget in Balinese) because it was inhabited by Bhuto Ijo spirit who was bearing the mandate of Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh to secure his betel box.
At that time, Pedanda Sakti was in the southern peninsula of Bali (now Uluwatu) and then came to a villager of Kerobokan to ask for the dry land to be utilized by the local community. He advised the villagers to establish a shrine for venerating Ida Bhatara Labuhan Masceti and also to make a chamber shrine for Bhuto Ijo as a place to secure and save the betel box of Pedanda Sakti Wawu Rauh. Since thenceforth, the temple was named Petitenget Temple
On the west side of Petitenget Temple stretches a magnificent white sandy beach and visitors often take advantage of it for bathing and sunbathing. In the afternoon, the scenery is so enchanting to watch the sunset. For the convenience of visitors, the location has been provided with ample parking area as well as representative accommodation and restaurant facilities.
