School Close in Bali During Galungan and Kuningan Holiday

According to the lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University in Bali, the long holiday should be useful for the children in the context of deepening their faith and devotion to God. In addition, the feast could also be used to transfer cultural and religious values. Thus, the students could really get a mature enrichment of religious teaching and cultural enrichment. Other than through school institutions, they can also get deepening from family and the community, especially when directly getting involved in ritual and cultural activities. How beautiful it is if the holiday can be taken advantage of for such a benefit.

He said that parents should involve them in preparing oblations or other ritual paraphernalia in order for the holiday could be beneficial to children's understanding of cultural and religious values. Parents were also expected to provide a perfect explanation of the meaning behind the rituals so that the dogmatic norms would no longer become a kind of culture. The long holiday is not merely to celebrate a festive season, but there is a meaning in the context of increasing faith and devotion. Children must also intensively be involved in their respective communities through religious and cultural activities.
Separately, the Head of Bali Education, Youth and Sports Agency, asserted that education did not only take place in the classroom. However, it also took place in family and society. "Education was not just looking for scores, but also prioritized character. Children's success in studying was also measured in terms of their moral behavior. We hope that the Galungan and Kuningan holidays can be taken advantage of properly by schools, communities, and parents in order to support the character education of students. We believe that school has been very creative in its execution," she said.
