The Great Ceremony Panca Wali Krama at Besakih Temple
6 March 2009The great ceremony of Panca Bali Krama, which is held once every ten years, will be held on Wednesday 25 March 2009. This ceremony will be conducted in Bali's Mother Temple, Besakih Temple in Karangasem Regency. The preparation of this ceremony has been conducted for months and the series of the ceremonies will last until Monday, 27 April 2009.

To ensure the holiness of this ceremony, the premeditated cremation ceremony can only be held until Friday, 20 February 2009. For those who pass away after 20th February 2009, their corpses have to be buried as soon as possible no cremation ceremony is allowed.
Amidst concern that voter turn-out in Bali would reach an all-time low as voting day coincides with a major Hindu ritual, PHDI reiterated that the Balinese will turn up. Head of the Bali chapter of PHDI (the Indonesian Hindu
Dharma Association), I Gusti Ngurah Sudiana, said that the Hindu Balinese would never miss a voting day because they are as committed to their religion.
Voting day on April 9 coincides with the night of the full moon during the Panca Wali Krama. On the night of the full moon of April 9, 2009, the Balinese are expected to travel in droves to Pura Besakih, to pay respect to the Gods.
